Working with Parts

Understanding your inner world

When you’ve lived through a difficult childhood, it can feel like different versions of you take over at different times. There is one who lashes out, maybe one who goes numb, and maybe one who collapses with shame, or even one who tries to keep everything under control. That experience isn’t a flaw. It’s your system’s way of surviving.

Many of us were taught to believe that the mind is supposed to be one single, unified voice. But the truth is, our minds are naturally multiple. We all carry different inner states that show up in different moments. For people with trauma or dissociation, these parts can feel especially distinct.

Parts work honors those inner states. Instead of pushing them away or treating them as problems, we approach them with curiosity and care. Each part developed for a reason — to protect you, to carry pain, or to help you survive.

In therapy, I help you:

  • Recognize which parts are showing up and why.

  • Create enough safety that protective parts don’t have to work so hard.

  • Care for younger or wounded parts still carrying painful memories.

  • Build more cooperation so your system feels less chaotic, less conflicted, and more connected.

Working with me isn’t about being told what’s wrong with you. It’s about slowing down, noticing what’s happening inside, and being curious together. I want you to feel more spacious, steady, and whole.

EMDR

Helping your nervous system get unstuck

Living through difficult experiences can overwhelm the brain and body, leaving pieces of the experience “stuck” in images, sensations, or beliefs about yourself (“I’m not safe,” “It’s my fault”). Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) helps your nervous system reprocess these experiences so they no longer interfere with your life.

After EMDR, people often notice:

  • Triggers losing their intensity.

  • Old shame or fear loosening its grip.

  • A greater sense of choice and flexibility in daily life.

EMDR for complex trauma and dissociation

Not all EMDR is the same. I’ve been specially trained to use EMDR with dissociation, plurality, and complex trauma. That means we move slowly and carefully, making sure all of your parts feel respected and included.

I weave parts work into EMDR so that:

  • Protective parts are heard, not overridden.

  • Younger or wounded parts feel supported while memories shift.

  • Your system stays balanced as change unfolds.

An EMDR session with me includes somatic grounding, checking in with your parts, gentle reprocessing at your pace, and integration so you leave with more clarity and ease.

How It All Works Together

Parts work and EMDR are most powerful when used side by side. Parts work creates safety and understanding inside, while EMDR helps release what has been carried for too long.

Together, these approaches support growth, repair, and new possibilities. My role isn’t to push you but to walk alongside you — helping each part of you feel seen, supported, and ready for what comes next.

Trauma doesn’t have to define your life. Change is possible when we meet your system with compassion and care.

When you’ve lived through childhood trauma, it can feel like your mind and body are working against you: memories intruding, emotions flooding, shutting down, parts of you pulling in different directions. You may wonder if things can ever get better.

I believe they can. Shifts happen when all of you has space to be seen, heard, and cared for. My work combines parts work and EMDR, two approaches that respect the wisdom of your system and support your growth.
